Softball Recap: Big Foot Chiefs vs. Clinton Cougars

After flying high against Turner last Tuesday, Big Foot came back down to earth. The Big Foot Chiefs fell just short of the Clinton Cougars by a score of 6-5 on Thursday. Big Foot was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Clinton apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played on April 6th.

Holly Kynell put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Kynell has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in six consecutive pitching appearances. Kynell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.

In other batting news, Lily Wolf was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now hit three or more in the last three games she's played.

Like Big Foot, Clinton also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashley Theisen. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Theisen was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and a double.

Theisen wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Miranda Dahle, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Allie Bell was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Big Foot's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4. As for Clinton, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-4.

Big Foot will be playing in front of their home fans against Williams Bay at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Clinton, they will head out on the road to square off against Turner at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Clinton is facing Turner at the right time seeing as Turner is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
