Softball Recap: Hamden Green Dragons vs. Branford Hornets

Hamden extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-9 in the process. They lost 16-2 to the Branford Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 back in April.

As for Branford, their win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by ten runs or more this season.

For Branford's part, Shelby Burnham made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. With that strong performance, Burnham is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, nine RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ellie Brown was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Sophia Rasile, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hamden will head out to take on East Haven at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Branford, they will venture away from home to face off against Shelton at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
