Basketball Recap: North Providence Piles Up the Points Against Woonsocket

North Providence lost to Woonsocket back in January of 2022, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The North Providence Cougars really took it to the Woonsocket Villa Novans for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-39 win. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 21 points or more this season.

North Providence's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makenna Heon, who went 10 for 20 en route to 27 points in addition to six assists and five boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Heon has scored at least a third of North Providence's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Catherine Nicolo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Heon wasn't the only one working in the assists department: North Providence was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Woonsocket lost, don't look at Jelysa Moise. Despite the final result, she posted 20 points. Those 20 points gave Moise a new career-high.

North Providence pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.0 points per game. As for Woonsocket, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

North Providence will square off against Smithfield at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. North Providence is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season. As for Woonsocket, they will welcome Burrillville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
