Baseball Recap: Mason Comes Up Short

Mason and Oak Hills squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Mason had to settle for second. They lost 11-5 to the Highlanders. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Highlanders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in June of 2025.

Ben Hanley was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, Mason saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Sander, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Dylan Heimbuch also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Mason's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Oak Hills, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 22-5.

Mason does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Oak Hills, they will face off against St. Xavier at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bombers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Highlanders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
