Baseball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Morro Bay's 12th in Last 14 Outings

Morro Bay had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged out the Justin Garza Guardians 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since April 22nd.

Eli Brown tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Morro Bay's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Frankie Ainley, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Morro Bay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Justin Garza, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-16 record.

Looking ahead, Morro Bay will take on Mission Oak at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. Justin Garza does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
