Preview: Sparta Spartans vs. Reedsburg Beavers
The Sparta Spartans will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Reedsburg Beavers at 7:15 p.m. Sparta is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Sparta fought the good fight in their overtime match against La Crosse Logan on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 60-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rangers. Sparta has struggled against La Crosse Logan recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Sparta's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Amelia Russ, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds, and Elexa Jones who scored 15 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Jones scored 15 or more points. Izzy Mickelson was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Meanwhile, even though Wisconsin Dells scored an imposing 55 points on Thursday, Reedsburg still came out on top. Reedsburg took their match against Wisconsin Dells 65-55. Given Reedsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Wisconsin Dells is ranked 245th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sparta bumped their record down to 2-6 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Reedsburg, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Sparta was taken down by Reedsburg 61-33 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Sparta was down 33-13.
