Baseball Game Preview: Xaverian Brothers Hawks vs. St. John's Prep Eagles

Xaverian Brothers and St. John's Prep are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. St. John's Prep took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Xaverian Brothers, who comes in off a win.

Xaverian Brothers had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Mansfield on Friday. The Hawks blew past the Hornets 8-1. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Nick Wenstrom tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Xaverian Brothers got a big performance out of Mike O'Keefe, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. O'Keefe is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Greyson Mazza was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, St. John's Prep was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They came up short against St. John's, falling 8-1. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 3, 2023, but that streak is no more.

St. John's Prep's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2. As for Xaverian Brothers, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Xaverian Brothers was able to grind out a solid victory over St. John's Prep when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
