The Blacksburg Bruins will face off against the Cave Spring Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Blacksburg's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Radford with a sharp 15-0 win.
Madelyn Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Sydney Deane and Clara McMahon did most of the damage at the plate: Deane got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while McMahon went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI McMahon has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Hudgins, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Blacksburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Cave Spring waltzed into their contest on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They beat the Blue Demons by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Blacksburg, Cave Spring also got a great game from a two-way player: Caitlyn Karnes. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Karnes was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Abigail Bradberry was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Rachel Hartman was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Cave Spring pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Blacksburg, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11.
