Pike Road had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Saint James on Saturday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 12-3 win. The Patriots' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Pike Road gave Michael Hodge the start and clearly made the right call: he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gunner Gibbs, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Herbert Reyes, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Pike Road was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Pike Road's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Saint James, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Pike Road will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Charles Henderson at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Saint James, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-6 victory against Chilton County on the 21st.
