Baseball Game Preview: Thibodaux Tigers vs. Catholic Bears

The Thibodaux Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Catholic Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Thibodaux sitting on four straight wins and Catholic on 25 (dating back to last season).

Thibodaux's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Houma Christian with a sharp 14-0 victory. Considering the Tigers have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Catholic sidestepped Terrebonne for a 4-3 win. The four-run effort marked the Bears' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Kenneth Russell tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. What's more, he also posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jack Ruckert, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Catholic's victory was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Thibodaux, their record now sits at 5-2.

Thibodaux came up short against Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 4-0. Can Thibodaux avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
