Basketball Recap: Highlands Ranch's Win Ends Seven-Game Losing Streak at Home

Highlands Ranch's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Ponderosa Mustangs with a sharp 62-41 victory. The Falcons pushed the score to 51-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs cut but never quite recovered from.

Highlands Ranch found their leader in sophomore Mason Lane, who shot 4-for-5 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. Lane continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brooks Hamlett, who posted nine points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Highlands Ranch smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Loss or not, Ponderosa got some senior leadership from Ryan Tongren and Cade Heiden. Tongren dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards, while Heiden put up eight points.

Highlands Ranch's win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 8-9. As for Ponderosa, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-11.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Highlands Ranch Falcons take on the Heritage Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.8 points per game this season. As for Ponderosa, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-47 victory against Sand Creek on the 3rd.
