Basketball Recap: Moapa Valley Comes Up Short

Moapa Valley has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were outmatched by the Virgin Valley Bulldogs and fell 59-22. The Pirates were down 55-16 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Moapa Valley lost on Friday, don't look at Claire Cox. Despite the final result, she posted eight points along with nine boards and three steals. Cox is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

Virgin Valley found their leader in freshman Hannah Waite, who shot 5-for-9 from deep and dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten steals. Another player making a difference was Julia Leavitt, who went 5-for-9 on her way to 14 points and four steals.

Moapa Valley's loss dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Virgin Valley, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 21-7.

Moapa Valley has already played their next game, a 65-39 win against Boulder City on the 11th. As for Virgin Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 69-23 victory against Pahrump Valley on the 11th.
