Recap: Jackson Heights Cobras vs. Horton Chargers
The Jackson Heights Cobras were the 70-28 winner over the Horton Chargers when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Jackson Heights fell to Horton 49-44. Jackson Heights just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Jackson Heights' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dawson Cochren, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. The contest was Cochren's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Savannah Cattrell, who scored seven points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Jackson Heights were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Jackson Heights has fallen quite a ways from their 19-5 record last season and are now at 1-4. As for Horton, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3.
Jackson Heights will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Valley Falls at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Horton will be home for the holidays to greet Atchison County on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Atchison County is ranked 299th, while Horton is ranked 293rd).
