Argo is 2-8 against Evergreen Park since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Argonauts are taking a road trip to challenge the Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Argo took a 13-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lemont, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Argonauts sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Lemont HS on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Argonauts as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Matt Mateyack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Argo is 6-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-18 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Valente Melero was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Evergreen Park waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Astros get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.
Not much got past Noah Munoz, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep Shepard off the board. Munoz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Evergreen Park saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cadyn Kummer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Evergreen Park's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Argo, their record now sits at 12-20.
Argo couldn't quite finish off Evergreen Park when the teams last played back in April and fell 9-7. Can the Argonauts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
