Football Recap: Sumner Takes a Loss

After soaring to 44 points the game before, Sumner was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They had to suffer through a 41-9 loss at the hands of the Lakeland Dreadnaughts. The game marked the Stingrays' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Lakeland found their leader in sophomore Ahnarri Cooper, who rushed for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 57 yards.

With the loss, Sumner broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2. As for Lakeland, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Sumner and Lakeland should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Stingrays (ranked 37th) will meet Hillsborough (ranked 276th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lakeland will challenge Sebring at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (8 vs. 130).
