Flag Football Game Preview: San Ysidro Cougars vs. Mar Vista Mariners

San Ysidro is a perfect 4-0 against Mar Vista since October of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cougars will look to defend their home field against the Mariners at 6:00 p.m. San Ysidro is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 35.6 points per game this season.

If San Ysidro beats Mar Vista with 60 points on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Cougars breezed past Montgomery to the tune of 60-6 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Aztecs: they've now won five in a row.

It was another big night for Vida Sanchez, who threw for 208 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 86.2% of her passes, and also rushed for 124 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries. Those seven passing touchdowns gave her a new career-high.

San Ysidro didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Mia Gonzalez led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself.

Meanwhile, Mar Vista fell victim to Southwest SD and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They lost 20-0 to the Raiders. The Mariners haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

San Ysidro's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Mar Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.

Everything came up roses for San Ysidro against Mar Vista when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 47-6 victory. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Mariners have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
