Lake View hasn't had much luck against Andrews recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Chiefs/Maidens will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Lake View knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Andrews likes a good challenge.
Lake View is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Big Spring 76-49 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs/Maidens, who have now won five games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Izaiah Rios produced another solid performance rushing for 162 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also picking up 62 receiving yards. His longest rush was for an incredible 85 yards. Braylon White was another key player, picking up 122 receiving yards and four TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lake View was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 233 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 166 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 22 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Rios, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Andrews was able to grind out a solid win over Pecos on Friday, taking the game 33-23. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Lake View better keep an eye on Beau Hudson. He was instrumental in Andrews' win, rushing for 133 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. Hudson has become a key player for the Mustangs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Blas Hernandez, who rushed for 78 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.
Lake View's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Andrews, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. Lake View has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 280.3 passing yards per game. Andrews, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 225 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Lake View was dealt a bruising 65-7 loss at the hands of Andrews when the teams last played back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Mustangs' JaeSean DeBouse, who rushed for 127 yards and a pair of TDs.
