Land O' Lakes and Sunlake are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Gators will challenge the Seahawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Things were looking good for Land O' Lakes after they put the first points on the board last Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 21-17 to Mitchell. The Gators haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Land O' Lakes' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Xavier Clemente, who picked up 194 receiving yards and two TDs, and Chance Houston, who threw for 263 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Clemente was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 65 yards.
Meanwhile, Sunlake didn't have quite enough to beat Gulf on Friday and fell 28-25. While the Seahawks had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Buccaneers 19-7.
Land O' Lakes will have to keep a close watch on Jayven Williams and Hayes McGuire, a pair of players who had a big impact on Sunlake's prior game. Williams gained 75 total yards and two touchdowns, while McGuire threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns. McGuire also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making one tackle.
While Sunlake came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Gulf: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 47.6%. Land O' Lakes' record is now 3-3. As for Sunlake, their record now sits at an identical 3-3.
Everything came up roses for Land O' Lakes against Sunlake in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-21 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
