Football Recap: Gilbert Falls to Hamilton in First Game of Season

Gilbert unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by the Hamilton Huskies and fell 35-3. The Tigers were already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.

Lilah Barton threw for 136 yards while completing 73.3% of her passes. Brylee Gaylord was her top target, picking up 51 receiving yards.

A big part of Hamilton's win came down to the chemistry between Marlie Phillips and her top target Markiah Riley. Phillips threw for 236 yards and five TDs while Riley picked up 119 receiving yards and three scores. Phillips has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times she's played.

Gilbert didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 52-0 victory against South Mountain on the 23rd. As for Hamilton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 47-7 win against Liberty on the 23rd.
