Softball Recap: Highland Park Giants vs. Evanston Wildkits

After flying high against Round Lake last Monday, Highland Park came back down to earth. The Highland Park Giants fell victim to a rough 13-3 loss at the hands of the Evanston Wildkits on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Highland Park of the 14-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2017.

Taylor Layette was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Marin Killeen was another key contributor, going 2-for-2 with a stolen base.

On Evanston's side, they got a massive performance out of Sophie Berger-White, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, a triple, and a run. The team also got some help courtesy of Aayna Ghose, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Highland Park's loss dropped their record down to 2-6-1. As for Evanston, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-9-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland Park will take on Niles West at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Evanston, they will be playing at home against Glenbrook South at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Evanston will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
