Recap: Roxbury Gaels vs. Morristown Colonials
The Roxbury Gaels put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They put the hurt on Morristown with a sharp 36-14 win. Given Roxbury's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Morristown is ranked 103rd), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Roxbury can attribute much of their success to Anthony Skawinski, who rushed for 15 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns while completing 84.6% of his passes. Colin Richter did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 113 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Roxbury's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Matt Collins and his two sacks.
Roxbury's win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-1 Mount Olive and 6-2 Parsippany Hills (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 67.5% over those games). Morristown has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Roxbury will be playing in front of their home fans against Livingston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Livingston is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Morristown, they will head out on the road to face off against West Morris Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
