Baseball Recap: Welsh Find Success

Welsh was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Lacassine Cardinals. The Greyhounds haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Dane Iguess made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Welsh is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Iguess was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.

Welsh's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Lacassine, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Welsh will host Oberlin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lacassine, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cardinals take on the Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lacassine's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Vinton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
