Softball Recap: Pineville Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Pineville extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 25-9. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Jena Giants. The Rebels have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Giants, too.

Chelsie Simpson spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Pineville's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jadin Basco, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Jena, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 24-4. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Jena's side, they also let their pitcher toss all nine innings and she was also dialed-in: Kiette Cooper gave up four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 16 Ks. Cooper has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Callie Decker made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pineville will challenge Florien at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jena, they will square off against West Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
