Riverside was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Northeastern Jets. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by just one run.
Riley Dillon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Miah Carman was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
The win made it two in a row for Riverside and bumps their season record up to 14-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Northeastern, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.
Coming up, Riverside is taking a road trip to challenge Lehman Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.63 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Northeastern, they will host Madison Plains at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
