Softball Recap: Providence Day Takes a Loss

Providence Day fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Charlotte Latin on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 4-2. The Chargers just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Rachel Lyons spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits and racked up 20 Ks. Those 20 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Olivia Hartsell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

Providence Day's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Charlotte Latin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Providence Day will face off against rival Covenant Day at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chargers 3.3, the Lions 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Charlotte Latin is set to square off against their familiar foe Cannon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
