Volleyball Game Preview: Marina Vikings vs. Los Alamitos Griffins

Marina is 0-7 against Los Alamitos since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Griffins at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Marina is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Newport Harbor.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Newport Harbor scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Los Alamitos and Fountain Valley meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Griffins came up short against the Barons, falling 3-0.

While Los Alamitos was not able to win a set, they sure kept things interesting: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-22, 25-22.

Marina's defeat dropped their record down to 11-16. As for Los Alamitos, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-12 record this season.
