The Port Allegany Gators will venture away from home to square off against the Otto-Eldred Terrors at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Port Allegany will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Monday, Port Allegany got the win against Cameron County by a conclusive 13-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Gators have posted against the Raiders since April 21, 2022.
Nicholas Wilfong was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Port Allegany let Tyler Fillhart and Levi Howard run wild. Fillhart went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Howard went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave Fillhart a new career-high. Tayton Roys was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Port Allegany always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cameron County only posted an OBP of .360.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Otto-Eldred, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Northern Potter 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Terrors in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won nine in a row.
Manning Splain was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Landon Francis, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Port Allegany pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Otto-Eldred, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Otto-Eldred's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Port Allegany has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Otto-Eldred, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Port Allegany keep running through batters, or will the Terrors buck the trend?
Port Allegany beat Otto-Eldred 7-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Gators repeat their success, or do the Terrors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
