Basketball Recap: Gainesville Takes a Loss

Gainesville was the 46-36 winner over Lanier when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Gainesville Red Elephants lost to the Lanier Longhorns on the road by a 67-53 margin on Friday. The Red Elephants have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Gainesville saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jaucelyn Smith posted 23 points. Smith continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Shailyn Jones was another key player, putting up ten points.

Gainesville's defeat dropped their record down to 14-12. As for Lanier, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season.

Looking ahead, Gainesville will square off against River Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. River Ridge will roll in looking for their 23rd straight win, something Gainesville surely won't give up without a fight. Lanier does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
