Basketball Recap: Santiago Jimenez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Edgewood over Cocoa

Edgewood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Cocoa Tigers, falling 63-39. The Red Wolves were probably out for revenge after losing 70-34 to them when the teams met back in January of 2020, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Edgewood lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Santiago Jimenez, who posted eight points along with six rebounds and four steals. Jimenez is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie Monterrubio, who had eight points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Edgewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Edgewood's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Cocoa, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Edgewood will welcome Geneva at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cocoa, they will host Cocoa Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
