Softball Game Preview: Swartz Creek Dragons vs. Fenton Tigers

Swartz Creek is 0-10 against Fenton since April of 2023 but things could change on Monday. The Dragons will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Swartz Creek has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Swartz Creek lost 14-3 to Lapeer on Saturday. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Fenton waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hornets a 15-0 shutout. The Tigers' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.

Abby Golen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Marlee Topij was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lillian Tillier, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.

Fenton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in six consecutive contests.

Fenton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Swartz Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
