Football Recap: Concordia Skates Past Sweet Springs with Ease

Concordia faced Sweet Springs in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Fighting Orioles simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Greyhounds 61-22. The Fighting Orioles haven't had any issues with the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Carson Droege was his usual excellent self, rushing for 172 yards and three scores while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. He is becoming a predictor of Concordia's success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Concordia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 425 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 254 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Concordia's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Maddix Inman was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 24 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Concordia's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Sweet Springs, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Concordia wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 28-22 loss against Wellington-Napoleon on the 24th. As for Sweet Springs, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-26 victory against Santa Fe on the 24th.
