Basketball Recap: Alex Meece's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southern over Axtell

On Tuesday, the Southern Raiders didn't have quite enough to beat the Axtell Eagles and fell 51-49. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Southern's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Meece, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Meece has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cooper Warford, who posted 21 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Southern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Southern's loss dropped their record down to 3-4. As for Axtell, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Southern didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-43 victory against Weeping Water on the 2nd. As for Axtell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 99-52 win against Washington County on the 3rd.
