Volleyball Recap: Athens Academy Starts off Right with Win over Monroe Area

Athens Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Purple Hurricanes: they've now won five in a row.

Athens Academy not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Monroe Area between 17 and 18 points across their sets. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-17.

Athens Academy found their leader in freshman Riley Muir, who had eight digs and two aces.

Athens Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monroe Area only served four aces.

Having lost for the first time this season, Monroe Area fell to 2-1.

Coincidentally, Athens Academy and Monroe Area will both be playing Bethlehem Christian Academy the next time they take the court. The Spartans will head out to face the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Purple Hurricanes will head out to face them at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
