Softball Game Preview: Southwest Trojans vs. Mt. Vernon Mountaineers

The Southwest Trojans will challenge the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Southwest has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Southwest is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Monday. They lost 18-6 to Marionville.

Riley Flippo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Raeli Miles was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Mt. Vernon's offense. They fell just short of Skyline by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Mountaineers have lost by just one run.

Mt. Vernon is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 22-10. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Southwest, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Southwest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Mt. Vernon struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Southwest suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Mt. Vernon when the teams last played back in April. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
