Baseball Game Preview: Northampton Yellowjackets vs. Lancaster Red Devils

Northampton hasn't had much luck against Lancaster recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Northampton will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Lancaster at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Northampton barely beat Franklin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Northampton put the hurt on Franklin with a sharp 17-1 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now won nine in a row.

Trent Ferebee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ferebee was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Northampton let Riley Carpenter and Brock Leland run wild. Carpenter scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Leland scored two runs and stole four bases. That's the most runs Leland has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Brown, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one stolen base.

Northampton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Franklin only posted an OBP of .273.

Meanwhile, Lancaster never let their opponents score on Saturday. They came out on top against Nottoway by a score of 4-0.

The victory got Northampton back to even at 1-1. As for Lancaster, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
