Football Recap: Vinny Zimmerman Key Part of Team Effort in Bulldogs Win

Southern's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They took down the Patapsco Patriots 22-6. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 22-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Patriots cut but never quite recovered from.

Southern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vinny Zimmerman led the charge by throwing for 100 yards and one TD, while also rushing for 49 yards. Those 49 rushing yards gave Zimmerman a new career-high.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Southern proved: they limited Patapsco to a paltry 2.6 yards per carry. The Bulldogs' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.

Southern's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Patapsco, they now also have a losing record of 1-2.

Southern wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 57-0 loss against SEED on the 25th. As for Patapsco, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 28-24 victory against Eastern Tech on the 26th.
