Football Game Preview: Axtell Wildcats vs. Elm Creek Buffaloes

The Axtell Wildcats will take on the Elm Creek Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Axtell has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with seven straight defeats, while Elm Creek will come in with three straight victories.

It was a proper cat-fight when Axtell faced off against Blue Hill on Friday. The Wildcats were beaten by the Bobcats 58-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered against the Bobcats since September 22, 2017.

Meanwhile, Elm Creek had just enough and edged out Kenesaw 41-38 on Friday.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Keston Beavers and Adam Denkert. Beavers had a great game and rushed for 218 yards and six TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Denkert was balling out in the loss, rushing for 228 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.6 yards per carry.

Elm Creek didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Beavers. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 110.8 rushing yards per game.

Axtell's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Elm Creek, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Everything came up roses for Axtell against Elm Creek when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 52-20 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Buffaloes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
