Softball Recap: Montello Comes Up Short

Montello extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-5. They came up short against the Port Edwards Blackhawks, falling 16-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Hilltoppers were not able to get on the board.

As for Port Edwards, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly 16 runs.

For Port Edwards' part, Montello's batters probably weren't too happy with Keira Coenen, who pitched a no hitter. Coenen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Emery Heckendorf was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Taylin McDonald was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Montello will square off against Pardeeville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Port Edwards, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-9 loss against Westfield Area on the 11th.
