Recap: Van Horn Eagles vs. Marathon Mustangs
After a string of three wins, the Van Horn Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 55-31 walloping at the hands of Marathon. Van Horn has not had much luck with Marathon recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Van Horn had strong showings from Taylor Martinez, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds, and Mallory Mendoza, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Mendoza pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Van Horn's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Marathon, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Van Horn is on the road again on Saturday and play against Sanderson at 12:30 p.m. on December 16th. Sanderson comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Marathon will be home for the holidays to greet Iraan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
