Basketball Recap: Shawnee Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Shawnee came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wapakoneta Redskins 63-33. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Redskins are ranked 469th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Shawnee to victory were Trevick Bertke and Beckett Bertke. Trevick went 9 of 12 on his way to 22 points, while Beckett almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. Trevick's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Damola Ojo, who posted six points.

Shawnee's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. As for Wapakoneta, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

The future could be bright for both Shawnee and Wapakoneta: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Shawnee will look to extend Memorial's three-game losing streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Meanwhile, Wapakoneta will try to hand St. Henry their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
