Basketball Recap: Horton Extends Winning Streak to Three

Horton won the last time they faced Maranatha Christian Academy and things went their way on Monday too. The Horton Chargers snuck past the Maranatha Christian Academy Eagles with a 55-51 win. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Eagles are ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Maranatha Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Pennbrook Shaver went 5 of 6 en route to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Shrader, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds.

The victory (which was Horton's third in a row) raised their record to 8-1. As for Maranatha Christian Academy, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Horton has already played their next game (against McLouth), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Maranatha Christian Academy will take on Pleasant Ridge at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Pleasant Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season.
