Baseball Recap: Simla Find Success

Simla won against Otis on Thursday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Cubs came out on top against the Calhan Bulldogs by a score of 9-5. The win continues a trend for the Cubs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.

Tatum Kocerha made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Logan Rayfield and Ethan Kissam did most of the damage at the plate: Rayfield got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Kissam went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Rayfield has become a key player for Simla: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bodie Glover, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.

Simla's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Calhan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-12.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Simla beat the Bulldogs by a score of 16-6 later that day.
