Baseball Recap: Checotah Wins Going Away Against Stilwell

Checotah hadn't done well against Stilwell recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 12-2 victory. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 11-6 win the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Camden Ferguson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Cale Thompson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Checotah is 3-1 when Thompson posts two or more runs, but 2-14 otherwise. Dallas Carter was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Checotah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive games.

Checotah's record is now 5-15. As for Stilwell, they dropped their record down to 5-10 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Checotah will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
