Preview: Cortez Colts vs. Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles
Cortez has been on the road for three straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bourgade Catholic took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Cortez, who comes in off a win.
Last Monday, everything went Cortez's way against Marcos de Niza as Cortez made off with a 43-20 victory.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Bourgade Catholic, who are still winless after their fifth game. They were beaten by Valley Christian 62-34 on Monday. While losing is never fun, Bourgade Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Valley Christian is ranked 44th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Juliet Botiller, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. She scored a full 55.9% of Bourgade Catholic's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa Arismendez, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Cortez's victory bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Bourgade Catholic, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 0-5.
