Basketball Recap: Mergenthaler Vo-Tech Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mergenthaler Vo-Tech can now relate to. They fell 74-62 to the Laurel Spartans on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Spartans are ranked 24th).

Jermaine Taylor was his usual excellent self, shooting 63% from the field to rack up 30 points for Laurel. The game was Taylor's fifth in a row with at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Brown, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 17 points and six boards.

Mergenthaler Vo-Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Laurel, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-4.

Mergenthaler Vo-Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Laurel, they will challenge Meade at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meade knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 25 matchups -- so hopefully Laurel likes a good challenge.
