Softball Recap: Homestead Picks Up Third Straight Win on the Road

Homestead lost to Wilcox on April 8th, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Mustangs walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Chargers. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Chargers on their field since April 2, 2022.

Mackenzie Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Homestead let Cierra Hagan and Mansi Patwardhan run wild. Hagan went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles, while Patwardhan went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Patwardhan a new career-high. Gwyn Romero also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Homestead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilcox only posted a batting average of .222.

Homestead pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wilcox, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Homestead will take on Mountain View at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wilcox, they will face off against Los Altos at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
