Baseball Game Preview: Milan Bulldogs vs. Kirkwood Cobras

The Milan Bulldogs will square off against the Kirkwood Cobras at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Milan managed to slip by Henry County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bulldogs came up short against the Patriots on Wednesday, falling 11-4. The Bulldogs' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Milan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colin Milligan, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kirkwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Todd County Central with a sharp 12-2 victory on Friday. The Cobras not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8th (when they won 21-3).

Cole Johnson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mathew Dirks was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Kirkwood's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-15 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Peyton Deloach, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Kirkwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Todd County Central only managed four hits.

Milan's loss dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Kirkwood, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-15.
