Baseball Recap: Kennedy Comes Up Short

Kennedy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Costa Mesa Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 last Tuesday.

Tyler Onofre spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Kennedy's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

Kennedy's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Costa Mesa, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Kennedy will host Montclair at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Costa Mesa, they will take on Estancia at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
