Softball Recap: Quitman Takes a Loss

Quitman fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against West Ouachita on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chiefs by a score of 7-6. The Wolverines were not able to make up for their defeat to the Chiefs from their previous meeting back in February of 2016.

Anna Leach was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Maggie Guyotte, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Quitman and nudges their season record down to 17-7. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for West Ouachita, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, Quitman and West Ouachita will both be playing Benton the next time they take the field. The Wolverines will head out to face the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Chiefs will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
