James Whitaker put up the most strikeouts he's had since back in March on Wednesday. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Whitaker's strong effort led Bishop Gorman over Desert Oasis and he'll get a chance to do so again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Gaels are 8-1 against the Diamondbacks going back to March of 2023, a lead they'll look to extend.
